Thanks, Bernard, for your imagination which goes beyond the theme of the event. We love it! The public was given the task of choosing a favourite artwork. Not an easy task with the quality and variety of the entries. Eventually, at the 'Meet and Greet' on Sunday afternoon, 'Moonambel CBD' by Maggie Barnes-Oake was declared the favourite. Maggie is our own very talented artist who has many artistic styles under her belt both 2D and 3D but is recently dabbling in caricatures involving Moonambel people, places and events. We always enjoy seeing her latest work recognising who and what she is depicting in each artwork. We wonder what she will do in her next venture. Local politician Louise Staley donated the $200 prize and enjoyed being able to meet the artist as well as present the cheque. The event concluded with the magnificent spread and local wines being enjoyed by one and all... Another successful event put the rest.
All photos by Graeme Akers After a very successful dabble with black and white in the charcoal workshop we are moving on to our next exhibition 'Celebrating Colour', a multimedia spectrum of the rainbow. You are welcome to exhibit (see previous poster calling for artists) or join us for a Springtime activity taking in a market on the Saturday showing. We look forward to an exciting splash of colour in Moonambel. Our calling for entries poster and info... Contact Garry, Kaye or Sanne via email and we can send you this information to download. Our next exhibition is in the very early planning stage. We hope to hold a multi media exhibition titled 'Celebrating Colour'
MAHG invites all artists to submit work incorporating the theme of colour. Watch this space for more information as we confirm dates etc. OPEN STUDIO with Maggie Barnes-OakeThe place should be buzzing at Easter with all the wineries in the area, a market at the school, an art exhibition at the general store and Maggie's Open Studio. Maggie has opened her home which she has been renovating the past few years. An octagonal mud brick home which also serves as her studio. It really is a 'must see'. She plans to be dedicating the Easter break to welcoming visitors into her home to see her creating her art, viewing her home, enjoying a refreshment or all of the above. We hope this is just the first of many more 'Open Studio' events in our area. THE WINNERS:BEST OF SHOW sponsored by Moonambel Arts & History group (MAHG) WAITING FOR THE SUN by Chris Kaszubski PEOPLE'S CHOICE: MOST POPULAR sponsored by Louise Staley MLA FLIGHT by Wally McDonald PEOPLE'S CHOICE: MOST HUMOROUS sponsored by Pyrenees Art Council COLBY'S HAPPY PLACE by Robin Ross The weekend saw scores of people passing through our doors. We heard many positive comments and we feel that this has been the best photo exhibition to date. The quality was astounding. Even though only one person could win, the Stawell Camera Club judges wanted to say that many were of winning quality and it was very hard to narrow down to just one. So to all those wonderful people who entered this year, please enter again next year to showcase your talents. Who knows...you may win!
There are 138 photos to be viewed. Finding the best in the show was an extremely hard job. Nobody envied the independent judges. The Moonambel Rec. Reserve Committee always stage a market on the Saturday morning of our 2 day exhibitions. The community looks forward to a browse of the stalls as well as patronising our exhibitions. We also run a barbecue and Devonshire teas at the market as part of providing a service for the community. Our annual photo competition is on once more. This time we invite photographers to give us a wide range of interpretations of the theme. Contact Jan or Kaye for an entry form if you can't download the one here.
Photos can be left at the Moonambel General Store or contact us if you prefer another form of delivery. Get thinking! It will be on us before we realise! |
