It is hoped that Moonambel Anzac Avenue will be officially acknowledged at our Remembrance Day Service. | The guards were added when the weather cleared. Stage 1 is now completed. Next job is the plaques under each of the 52 trees. Stay tuned! |
For many years both Jill Hunter, avid local historian and MAHG member, together with Noreen McAdam, Moonambel community resident and supporter of preserving Moonambel’s history, have worked towards the installation of historical signs into the Moonambel streetscape. Thanks to the two women, six wonderful interpretive signs with photos and stories illuminate Moonambel’s history from the period of the Gold Rush on, bringing places and people from the past to the present.
We are pleased to announce our success in gaining a grant from the Department of Premier & Cabinet to restore our ANZAC Avenue to its former glory. The plans are to replace the missing trees, replace the plaques with the servicemen's names at the foot of each of the 52 trees, erect an information plaque and generally tidy up the Avenue. Now the work begins... Local Artist's SuccessMaggie Barnes-Oake entered her work at the Pyrenees Art Exhibition in Beaufort over the long weekend. She won first prize in the pairs section with two 30cm x 30cm pastels on canvas titled Market Place - Here, There, cartooning a sheep market on one and a mirror image of sheep marketing humans in the other. The judge, Gordon Morrison, Director of the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, described them as quirky - high praise in Maggie's mind. Both were sold so we don't have a photo. Disappointing for us but congratulations to Maggie for a fantastic effort. Maggie will be exhibiting in the upcoming Core of my Art exhibition in October. Sundial UpdateOur mosaicists have achieved a milestone by completing the number pavers for the sundial to be placed at the Moonambel Common. Not sure what happens next but I'm sure they will let us know. Adrian van den Burgen is the task master who making sure the installation is on track. We are hoping to have an opening ceremony linked with our Core of my Art exhibition in October. Next stage ... The pavers are pinned in their correct positions at the construction site at the Moonambel Common. Sanne is on site completing the mosaic designs over the holding pins. Luckily, it was a sunny winter's day! The Moonambel Lockup Installation (stage 2) at the Common
