MCTC Performs at Local Hall 80th Celebration

27/11/2017

Picture
The Moonambel Mechanics Hall had a weekend of celebrating the 80th Anniversary of 'new' hall. (The old one washed away in the floods of 1937!)

MCTC performed 'Its Raining At Lulubels's where we were entertained with an impression of how it must have been back then with the community coming together to build the hall we know today.

Lots of music, comedy and entertainment as we were taken through the 4 years it took to build.

Hogan & Fox Exhibition

6/9/2017

PictureThe Twin

As we expected, the artists,
Merri Hogan and Barry Fox,
provided us with a very classy exhibition.
Their work definitely
complemented each other with the
natural colours of earth and timber
providing an Australian atmosphere.

Barry exhibited his Australian animals
but also some new creations
from the fantasy world.
They were definitely a talking point.

We also saw the development
of Merri's work
from black and white etching
to adding wonderful earthy colours
in the printing stage.

Unfortunately, the photos
do not do Merri's work justice as
the reflection on the glass
was unavoidable.

The 'Meet and Greet' saw
 large crowd delighting in
the exhibition.
As Louise Staley mentioned,
MAHG always has a wonderful blend
of fine art with beautiful
Pyrenees wines.

Once again we managed to bring
our local talent out on show
for the community to enjoy.

Hogan & Fox Exhibition

10/8/2017

Picture

We are thrilled to present
two local artists combining
in what promises to be
a most exciting exhibition.

Both artists are branching out
into new areas.

Merri Hogan comes from
a drawing background
and is exploring this further
with etching and printing.

Barry Fox usually
carves small animals
and is venturing into
the fantasy world.

We are also running a market
on the Saturday 9am to 1pm.

Contact Jan Curtis
if you would like to run a stall.
(see poster)

As usual, MAHG will run
a barbecue stall
and devonshire teas (or coffees)
during the market hours.

See you there!

The Raku Happening Workshop Fired Up

10/7/2017

The first workshop at the
Moonambel Community Ceramic Centre
took place  at the Moonambel Primary School where Adrian van den Bergen  introduced
the Raku workshop with an explanation of
the history of Raku. He then demonstrated different modelling techniques to 27 people.

Fifty two pots were made and left as pieces of Green-ware f
or a week to air dry.

A week later  they were wood-fired to
Bisque-ware. When cooled, decisions were made about  glazing. When glazed they were again fired at higher temperatures.

Many enjoyed helping Adrian  stoke the kiln and monitor the temperature, a crucial part of a successful glazing.

While the newly constructed kiln
needed a few adjustments to fie correctly,
everyone appreciated the experience
and the skills learnt.

A donated large gas fired kiln
has now been placed on site
and the structure is nearing completion.

We await Council approval and plumbing of the new kiln
to complete the centre.

In future, it is planned to have
two Raku firings in the winter of each year,
one for the school

and one for the general community.

The Moonambel Community Ceramic Centre
was made possible by funding from
FRRR and Pyrenees Shire,
the inspiration and skills of
Adrian van den Bergen
and the support of the
Moonambel Primary School Council
in conjunction with MAHG.

     Day 2:

     A week later everyone successfully
cleaned the surfaces of their tiles
     and applied grout.

                         Finally, the thrill to see
                        the colours and design
                    of the completed projects
                           brought the two days
                   to a successful conclusion.

     After instruction, the creating began.

     The preparation, elements of design,
choice of colours, designs and shapes

     was amazing.
